Head in the Right Direction Counseling Services is a multidisciplinary behavioral health group serving children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families across Dutchess, Putnam, and Westchester Counties. We are in-network with most major commercial and Medicaid plans, making high-quality care accessible to the communities we serve.
What You’ll Do
• Provide individual, family, and/or couples therapy (in-person and virtual)
• Maintain documentation in TherapyNotes EMR
• Collaborate with colleagues in a collegial, team-oriented environment
• Participate in optional peer consultation and case discussions
• Contribute to a culture of reflective, trauma-informed practice
Ideal Candidates
• Licensed in New York State (LCSW, LMHC, or LMFT)
• Comfortable working with children, teens, or families (preferred but not required)
• Interested in trauma-informed, embodied, or creative approaches
• Motivated to build and sustain a caseload
• Value autonomy while appreciating professional community

Structured Growth Toward Full Licensure
Head in the Right Direction Counseling Services is seeking Limited Permit clinicians who are ready to grow intentionally toward independent licensure in a supportive and structured private practice environment.
We offer meaningful clinical experience across age groups while providing supervision, consultation, and operational infrastructure that allows you to focus on clinical development.
What You’ll Do
• Provide psychotherapy to children, adolescents, and/or adults
• Deliver services in-person and via telehealth
• Maintain timely documentation in TherapyNotes
• Engage in required clinical supervision
• Participate in professional development and reflective practice activities

Private Practice Internship Experience
Head in the Right Direction Counseling Services offers structured internship placements for graduate students in MSW, MHC, and MFT programs.
This is a unique opportunity to train in a growing group private practice that balances clinical depth, ethical insurance practice, and community accessibility.
What You’ll Experience
• Direct clinical hours with children, adolescents, and adults
• Exposure to private practice operations (documentation, scheduling, insurance processes)
• Weekly individual and/or group supervision
• Experience with both in-person and telehealth delivery
• Integration of trauma-informed and embodied clinical frameworks
• Optional participation in program development and reflective writing activities
Our Training Philosophy
We believe interns should:
• Develop strong clinical judgment
• Learn ethical documentation and billing practices
• Understand how insurance impacts access to care
• Reflect on their clinical identity and theoretical orientation
• Experience private practice as both a clinical and business model
Ideal Candidates
• In a program eligible for field
• Enrolled in an accredited MSW, MHC, or MFT program
• In second year and eligible for field placement

• Comfortable working in a hybrid model
• Interested in long-term growth within private practice
Many of our interns transition into Limited Permit positions upon graduation.
